Ever wondered how a typical renter spends their day?

ApartmentList’s Rentonomics took the results of the American Time Use Survey and used the responses to construct a “typical” day in the life of a renter.

According to this analysis, renters spend the most time by far sleeping (8.4 hours out of 24) and working (6.1 hours of 24) each day. Relaxing and leisure comes in third at 2.7 hours, followed by commuting at 1.4, and household activities and eating and drinking at 1.1 hours each.

Compared to the typical day in the life of a homeowner, renter households spend less time on household activities and childcare, and more time sleeping, relaxing, and socializing. The average homeowner spends 23 extra minutes per day caring for their home, or 141 extra hours over the course of a year.
