With 2017 reaching the halfway mark, we revisit the Top 50 properties by online reputation we announced in January and see how the landscape has changed since then. For one thing, since the beginning of the year, we've added more than 3,000 properties to our database. Additionally, the current national average ORA score, 59, has increased 2% percent since the beginning of 2017.

This month, the ORA Power Ranking is based on the monitoring of the online ratings and reviews of more than 67,000 properties across various review sites. With a heightened focus on winning prospects over with a stellar online reputation, 27 new entrants upstaged the incumbent properties in the July Top 50 ranking.

The Kensington (Boston), managed by Bozzuto, maintained its stronghold on the No. 1 position, with an ORA score of 97 (out of a possible 100). The Kensington has been crowned as the top property by online reputation in the nation for two consecutive years. To be eligible for this ranking, a property has to have a minimum of 20 reviews. For properties with the same ORA scores, the property with the higher number of reviews ranks higher.

Pohlig Box Factory (Richmond, Va.), managed privately, jumped from the ninth spot in January to the second spot in July. New entrant Bella Tess (Spokane Valley, Wash.), managed by Greystar, came in third. Both properties scored 97 each.

Thirty-eight companies manage the 50 properties in this month's rankings. This fragmented landscape points to the intense competition between firms to avoid losing prospect traffic due to a negative online reputation.

Further breaking down July's numbers, five of the top 50 properties are privately managed. Bozzuto and Greystar manage four properties each, to tie for No. 1 as the companies managing the most properties this month; Cardinal Group ranks second, with two properties.

The states housing the most top 50 properties this month are Texas, with six; Virginia and California, with five each; and Massachusetts and Maryland, with four each.

About the ORA Power Rankings
The ORA Power Rankings are powered by J Turner Research in association with media partner Multifamily Executive. Each month, MFE publishes a new ranking of apartment properties and management companies based on different parameters.

Methodology
The ORA score is an aggregate compilation of a property's ratings across various review sites. Each month, J Turner Research monitors the online ratings of more than 67,000 properties nationwide. Using a statistical model, a single score based on a scale of 0 to 100 is assigned to each property. This score serves as a benchmark to compare and contrast a company’s individual properties and portfolios nationally, regionally, and against the competition.
