Eighty-two percent of renters consider community fitness centers one of their top five community amenities, according to the 2015 NMHC/Kingsley Apartment Resident Preferences Survey. In response to this high interest, and in keeping with its dedication to wellness, Atlanta-based multifamily developer Cortland Partners asked 600 of its apartment residents about their interest in “fitness-on-demand” programming, which includes classes like Zumba, spin, yoga, and boot camp.
Cortland found that 56% of renters surveyed were “extremely interested” in complimentary fitness programs in their rental communities, and 43% were "very interested."
Yoga class was the most popular fitness program option, with 71% of respondents saying they'd likely participate in such a class. Kickboxing class came in second, at 56%, followed by boot camp (52%), Zumba (50%), and spin class 46%). Running clubs came in last, at 24%. Wednesday is the most popular day for fitness class participation, and the most popular time slot is 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Cortland Partners provides on-site gyms in many of its new communities and conducts fitness programs in each of its developments through its Elevate by Cortland program, which is designed to help residents eliminate the need for gym memberships.
