According to a new analysis from RentCafe, the Sun Belt is home to many of the top 10 cities for renters raising families. Looking at 25 metrics, including cost of living, availability of family-sized apartments, school quality, and things to do with children, the rankings named Plano, Texas, as No. 1 out of nearly 140 cities.

The analysis’ findings, which were grouped into three categories of cost of living and housing, local economy, and quality of life, noted Plano’s balance of urban and suburban life, high-quality schools, and roomy apartments as keys to its ranking. Also boasting quality schools and healthy economies, Plano was followed by Scottsdale, Arizona; Arlington, Virginia; Sunnyvale, California; and Marietta, Georgia, in the top five.

The top 10 best places to raise a family while renting is as follows:

  3. Arlington, Virginia
  4. Sunnyvale, California
  5. Marietta, Georgia
  6. Austin, Texas
  7. Fayetteville, Arkansas
  8. Raleigh, North Carolina
  9. Ann Arbor, Michigan
  10. Round Rock, Texas

Scottsdale ranked second overall in quality of life, while Arlington ranked second in local economy. Sunnyvale ranked first in both quality of life and local economy, but 134th in housing and cost of living. Fayetteville claimed first in housing and cost of living rankings.
