Privately held real estate company LYND is stepping up to help the nation’s health care workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company, which manages multifamily communities throughout the U.S., is teaming with its 20,000-plus residents to raise money for local hospitals. Its “Lynding a Hand” program will donate $5 from every rent payment LYND receives, estimating it can raise tens of thousands of dollars, to hospitals in each of the metros where the company operates. It currently has 20,000 units under management in Atlanta; New Orleans and Lafayette, La.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Roanoke, Va.; Chicago; Kansas City, Mo.; Vernon, Okla.; Las Vegas; Fargo, N.D.; Little Rock, Ark.; and Austin, San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Houston.

“If we are going to get through this crisis, we are going to have to do it together with everyone doing their part to help,” said CEO A. David Lynd in a statement. “As a business owner, I feel like it is our patriotic duty to keep as many people employed as possible, and for those who still have jobs, to pay their bills as they are able. Together with our residents who continue making their monthly rent payments, we are going to help front-line heroes who are putting their lives at risk to save others and working around the clock to get this terrible virus under control.”

In each of LYND’s markets, the company said it will choose a local health care-related facility to support as well as other organizations helping those impacted by the novel coronavirus. In San Antonio, one of its top three markets, the company plans to donate to the HCA Hope Fund, which supports employees at HCA Healthcare hospitals, including Methodist Healthcare hospitals in the area. These donations are expected to assist medical workers and support staff who are dealing with hardships caused by the crisis.

“Everyone is going to look back on this moment in history and ask themselves, ‘What did I do to make a difference during the coronavirus pandemic?’ At LYND, we are going to set an example for other business that you must step up and do whatever you are capable of to help beat this thing,” added Lynd.

In addition to its support for the workers on the front lines, LYND is working on plans to ease the financial burden of residents, partners, and local businesses, with more specific details to be announced soon.
