During the exclusive Concept Community session at #MFEC, we unveiled two virtual student housing communities designed to fit findings of J Turner Research's survey of undergraduate and graduate student housing preferences. While KTGY presented a realistic concept designed with edgy and contemporary touches, Humphreys & Partners Architects' virtual community is the thing of dreams for any student. The design could be a look into the future of student housing, but high-end amenities and luxurious elements of the concept edge on the side of fantasy (hey, a student can dream, right?).

Set on a 3 acre site, the virtual community consists of two buildings: a 5-story mid-rise wrap with wood-frame construction and a 30-story  "home rise," with penthouse and townhome units filling the top 20 floors. The elevation and landscaping of the community could be mistaken for a high-end resort in Dubai, except this design probably features even MORE amenities than the Dubai norm (H&P set the virtual community in Austin, Texas).

Realistic or not, the design is beautiful and unique. A 7,200 sq. ft. party pool, putting green, "amenity cave," ample parking, climbing wall, bike rental station, roof patios, neon lights, and sand volleyball court would attract Gen Y like bugs to the light.
