JBG Smith, main developer of National Landing in Arlington, Virginia, has selected Common to manage the 216 co-living units at 2221 S. Clark St., formerly the WeWork co-living community WeLive Crystal City. The building’s co-living units are now available starting at less than $1,000 per month.

Common maintains a management portfolio of approximately 7,000 units and has over 26,000 signed units in development across 22 cities. 2221 S. Clark St. marks the co-living manager’s first entry into the National Landing community, following its entry into Washington, D.C., with properties in Shaw and Chinatown in 2017. The company now operates eight properties across the city, including i5 Union Market, taken over from the now-defunct Quarters in April.

“Our mission is deeply rooted in improving the urban rental experience through innovative technology and reliable operations,” says Brad Hargreaves, founder and CEO of Common. “JBG SMITH is a master of placemaking in the D.C. area, and they have expertly transformed National Landing into a place for renters of all ages to live, work, and thrive. We’re so thrilled to have a presence here and bring Common’s brand to Arlington.”

National Landing, a new mixed-use walkable downtown and home of Amazon’s HQ2 and Virginia Tech’s $1 billion innovation campus, is expected to see consistent demand for attainable, desirable housing for young professionals, according to JBG SMITH.

“Common at National Landing will offer JBG SMITH customers another unique and convenient option when it comes to renting an apartment home,” says Tiffany Butcher, executive vice president at JBG SMITH. “As an owner and manager of thousands of rental apartments throughout the region, we know firsthand the importance of providing housing options that are tailored to the needs of our customers. Common offers a best-in-class co-living experience that will complement and enhance housing options in National Landing.”
