Multifamily developer Tishman Speyer is collaborating with e-commerce giant Amazon to offer smart-home features and amenities in the upcoming Jackson Park luxury apartment towers, which are nearing completion in Queens, New York. Through the partnership, the first residents of Jackson Park’s 1,871 units will receive a complimentary Amazon Echo Show smart speaker upon move-in.
All residents will also receive a complimentary smart outlet, which can link to the Show device and highlight the possibilities of smart-home and voice-activated technology. Tishman Speyer will also provide an expanded smart-home package for the community's 120 penthouse residences, including electrical outlets, light switches, and thermostats certified to work with the Amazon Alexa personal assistant device and the Echo Show.
“With Jackson Park, Tishman Speyer is setting new standards for Long Island City luxury living and amenities,” said Rob Speyer, president and CEO of the firm, in a statement. “We are thrilled to be working with Amazon, the undisputed leader in advanced smart-home technology. We're striving for the best possible experience for our residents, and this collaboration completes the amenity package at Jackson Park.”
The smart-home technology concept grew from Tishman Speyer’s Idea Olympics, an internal innovation competition in which junior executives devised a concept for original residential amenities. The winners of the 2016 competition had developed a smart-apartment concept, which was implemented in Jackson Park.
“From making a living space more comfortable to offering entertainment and information, Alexa and Echo devices can improve the experiences we have in our homes,” said Charlie Kindel, director of Amazon Smart Home, in the statement. “Smart-home control is one of the most popular Alexa features today, and we think Long Island City residents will love using their voice to make life at home easier.”
Jackson Park, located in the Queens Plaza district of Long Island City, also features 120,000 square feet of amenity space, including a 1.6-acre private park. Each of the three residential towers, which stand at 42, 44, and 53 stories, respectively, will feature below-grade connections to The Club at Jackson Park, the community’s five-story, stand-alone amenity clubhouse. It will be located across the street from Tishman Speyer’s Jacx office development, which will open in 2019.
