President and COO of Farmington, Mich.–based Village Green Cos., George Quay, resigned from the company this month following a 60-day leave of absence. Although the exact circumstances surrounding his resignation are unknown, Village Green is reporting that Quay is “dealing with a family emergency that will preclude him from returning to the company.”   Quay was named Multifamily Executive magazine’s Executive of the Year in 2003 after he revamped the company, focusing on customer service and consolidation of management. He was with Village Green for 21 years.

The company has announced that its chief investment officer, Diane Batayeh, will take over as COO and assume all of Quay’s responsibilities. Batayeh has been with Village Green for more than 30 years, starting as a part-time sales consultant and working her way up to her current position.

Village Green Cos. was founded in 1919 and today has approximately 1,000 employees. As of this year, it owns 12,000 units and manages 38,000.
