Apartment investment company Audubon is rebranding The Scholar, a former student housing complex, to Steelhaven Birmingham, a 17-story high-rise luxury residential community located in Birmingham, Alabama’s Five Points South neighborhood.
“We’ve reimagined Steelhaven Birmingham with a focus on creating a vibrant, inviting space where residents can feel at home,” says Tammy Shields, chief operating officer at Audubon. “From refreshed finishes and upgraded amenities to flexible leasing options, we’re redefining what luxury living means in this community. This transformation is about more than aesthetics—it’s about offering a lifestyle that aligns with the energy and aspirations of our residents.”
The 372,999-square-foot Steelhaven Birmingham offers newly built studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans ranging from 350 square feet to 1,248 square feet. The 198 units are pet-friendly and are dressed with modern apartment interiors perfectly inspired by the building’s trendy amenities and its neighborhood near the University of Alabama Birmingham.
“We recognized an opportunity to expand Steelhaven Birmingham’s appeal beyond traditional student housing,” says Myles Cunningham, managing partner and chief investment officer at Audubon. “Our vision is to create a vibrant community that reflects the energy of the Five Points South neighborhood, offering high-quality, modern living spaces for students, faculty, and residents alike.”
Interiors include industrial architecture and finishes, built-in window coverings, quartz countertops, and hardwood-inspired flooring. In select units, residents can enjoy a private balcony, a kitchen island, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a walk-in closet.
As part of its transformation, Steelhaven Birmingham will be adding a pet spa and pet park to its list of community amenities, including a rooftop pool, a yoga studio, a 24-hour fitness center, outdoor grilling stations, saunas, fire pits, and a study lounge with co-working spaces.
Audubon teamed up with expert organizations to further craft a living community that blends modern comfort with a deep sense of connection. TSD Studio handled the rebranded building’s elevated interior design elements. MOC Consulting + Architectural Signage supported the rebranding visuals and signage.
“This transformation is so much more than redefining who we are; it’s about redefining what it means to live in the heart of the Five Points South neighborhood,” adds Shields.
