With the nation seeing a record number of multifamily deliveries, renters have more options this year. This makes engagement even more critical for attracting and retaining residents.
To address this, Multifamily Executive crafted its annual Concept Community around creating a strong resident experience to help show how apartment owners and operators are standing out in the competitive landscape as well as retaining their current residents.

As part of this year’s Concept Community, Multifamily Executive teamed up with Zonda Advisory to survey renters about their preferences during the leasing journey. The report distills input from more 600 multifamily residents across the nation uncovering key renter preferences and behaviors throughout the leasing journey.
The findings highlight the importance of balancing technology with personal connections to meet the needs of diverse demographics. While Gen Z renters favor tech-driven solutions for communication and tours, for example, baby boomers lean toward email and portal-based interactions. Across all generations, however, in-person touch points remain essential for apartment searches, move-ins, and lease renewals.
The report also includes insights from multifamily executives on design trends, maintenance priorities, and sustainability practices.
