The MSA (metropolitan statistical area) ORA Power Ranking series runs from August to October. In the first edition, we spotlight the top 25 most populous MSAs in the nation, ranking them based on their overall Online Reputation Assessment (ORA) score, and recognize the top 10 ORA properties in each. The population in this MSA group ranges from 2,512,859 to 20,140,470.

Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia, NC-SC continues to be the No. 1 MSA with the most favorable reputation among apartment residents with a 67.06 ORA. The top ORA property in this MSA is Camden Southline (Charlotte, North Carolina), with a score of 99 and managed by Camden Property Trust.

Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH is the second most reputable MSA among apartment residents with a 66.59 ORA. The Nines at Wellesley (Wellesley, Massachusetts), managed by Hanover Co., is the top property in this MSA with a 99 ORA.

Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV ranks third with a 65.94 ORA. The No. 1 property in this MSA is Millstone at Kingsview (Germantown, Maryland), with a 99 ORA score. It is managed by Bozzuto.

Overall, 11 of the top 25 MSAs performed above the national average ORA of 62.78.

The management companies with the most reputed properties by ORA in the top 25 MSAs are Greystar (27), Wood Residential (17), Bozzuto (9), RAM Partners (7), and Cortland (7).

Among the 250 properties listed in this ranking, 213, or 85%, scored an ORA of 95 or above.

In September and October, we will focus on the next two groups of MSAs, 26 to 50 and 51 to 75, respectively. The MSA ORA Power Ranking series was first introduced in 2017.

Methodology

The ORA score is an aggregate compilation of a property’s ratings across various review sites and ILSs. Each month, J Turner Research monitors the online ratings of more than 130,000 properties nationwide.
