
NAHB chairman Alicia Huey says President Joe Biden “missed a golden opportunity” in his State of the Union address to lay out a vision to combat the nation’s affordability crisis. While not providing a plan to address affordability, Biden did acknowledge the affordability crisis, stating “Let’s also finish the job and get more Americans access to affordable housing.”
“The nation’s home builders could not agree more. The lack of attainable, affordable housing in both the single-family and multifamily markets affects tens of millions of households nationwide, and easing the affordability crisis should be a top priority for the White House and Congress,” says Huey.
Huey says the NAHB will continue to work with policymakers and in partnership with the private sector to address the housing supply crisis “by seeking solutions to boost production of affordable housing and achieve a measure of price stability in the for-sale and rental markets.”
