Inspired by the naturalistic interiors of the Michelin-starred Noma restaurant in Copenhagen and skincare shop Aesop, Mintwood Real Estate has unveiled Oakhouse, a 219-unit Class A mixed-income community in Dallas’ Oak Cliff neighborhood.
“Oakhouse offers sophisticated living adjacent to Bishop Arts and downtown Dallas, both of which boast a dynamic mix of restaurants, retail, and rich Dallas history,” says Katy Slade, principal and founder of Mintwood. “Transforming long-underutilized land into new homes brings our team immense pride.”
The apartments, ranging in size from studios to three-bedrooms, feature curated finishes, including stainless steel appliances, walk-in showers, wood-style flooring, large closets, and chic quartz countertops. Many residences include views of the Dallas skyline. The property’s interiors were designed by SWOON Design Studio, and WDG Architecture served as architect.
“We found creative ways to maximize the flexibility of each unit, such as adding extra space to the bedrooms, so a resident can bring in whatever fits their lifestyle, like a desk for remote work and studying or fitness equipment for home workouts. Residents can also choose from two kitchen design options, allowing personalization. Customization is key for a space that truly feels like home,” says Nick Venghaus, principal at Mintwood.
Oakhouse’s upscale amenities offer an outdoor pool and grill area; a dog park; a parking garage with 15 electric vehicle chargers; an indoor lounge with a coffee bar; a fitness center with an attached playroom; remote workspaces; and a sky lounge on the top floor with unobstructed views of the downtown skyline.
In the lobby and amenity areas, Douglas fir woodwork complements concrete finishes, while soft furnishings add comfort. Reflecting the Bishop Arts District nearby, a specially commissioned oak tree art piece from Austin-based artist Landry McMeans recognizes the eclectic atmosphere of the neighborhood.
“The bright and airy point of view paired with the bold, design-forward furniture feels at once fresh and sharp in the multifamily space. Every moment from the petite and dreamy kids’ playroom in the fitness center to the immersive and harmonious entrance all feel highly considered and welcoming. I think residents will appreciate the high level of deliberate design that also feels incredibly relaxed,” says Samantha Sano, the founder of SWOON.
When asked what prompted the property’s inspirations of Aesop and Noma, Sano shares, “Both of these brands have always been incredibly inspiring to the design community as well as artists, foodies, and wellness devotees. Their use of natural materials, space planning, and sense of intimacy feels both soulful and artful, which felt perfect for this project and its local.”
Oakhouse is the first completed project as part of the Dallas Public Facility Corp., which aims to develop and preserve mixed-income housing in the city. A percentage of units are reserved as essential housing for members of the community who are part of the missing middle, including health care workers, educators, emergency responders, law enforcement, military personnel, and more.
Gables Residential will lease and manage Oakhouse, which is Mintwood’s second multifamily development in the Oak Cliff neighborhood. Mintwood also recently celebrated the completion of Peridot Residences, an office-to-multifamily conversion in downtown Dallas.
