Southern Land Co. (SLC) has opened the doors to Society, a new 148-unit luxury apartment community in the Ansonborough neighborhood of Charleston, South Carolina. Spanning 167,000 square feet across three brick buildings, Society embraces simplicity and elegance while providing a convenient location for its residents.

“We are beyond excited that Society has come to life in an exceptional location in a treasured city,” says SLC founder and CEO Tim Downey. “We have taken great care in the design, development, and now operation of Society, ensuring we have met our own high standards as well as those of the Ansonborough neighborhood and city. We are proud to introduce Society and extend our own brand of distinctive design and Southern hospitality to our residents.”

The new community, which is SLC’s first in Charleston, offers pet-friendly studios and one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartment homes, including eight penthouses. With 54 different floor plans, residents can choose from a range of residences starting at 572 square feet to 2,739 square feet.

Each unit features open-concept living spaces, chef-inspired kitchens, ample natural light, and modular walk-in closets. Finishes include Restoration Hardware pendant lighting; Calacatta quartz countertops and matte bath flooring; and under-cabinet lighting, while many residences also feature terraces, freestanding kitchen islands, and dual vanities with accent lighting.

Communal and amenity spaces at Society include a heated saltwater pool with a spa and views of Charleston Harbor set atop a second-floor deck; private cabanas and an outdoor social gathering space with a fireplace; a state-of-the-art fitness center; the Blue Palm, a meeting place for gathering with friends or working from home, equipped with a full kitchen and bar; and a Wi-Fi-enabled boardroom.

Residents can reserve any of Society’s communal lounges for personal occasions and are able to connect with neighbors through a variety of social and wellness programs organized by Society’s team of property management and hospitality professionals.

The community also offers secure bike storage; a private dog run and pet spa; package lockers with 24/7 access; controlled-access parking; and concierge services.

During the planning, development, and construction phases of the project, SLC collaborated with the city of Charleston, Historic Charleston Foundation, the Preservation Society of Charleston, and the Historic Ansonborough Neighborhood Association to ensure Society would be a welcomed addition to the city.

“We remain grateful for the input from the community as Society took shape,” adds Downey. “We are proud of Society and look forward to being great neighbors in this wonderful community for many years to come.”

The Nashville, Tennessee-based developer has projects in nine states, with regional offices in New York City; Philadelphia; Plano, Texas; Denver; and Vallejo, California. The company’s project pipeline is valued at $3 billion.
