Bringing new life to Brighton, Massachusetts’ St. Gabriel’s Church and Monastery, The Overlook at St. Gabriel’s is a new residential development featuring old and new buildings that “artfully integrate modern conveniences within stunningly restored century-old architecture.”

The project was led by Boston-based developer Cabot, Cabot & Forbes, along with Blue Vista Capital Management and PeakMade Real Estate. The developers worked with architect Bargmann Hendrie + Archetype to restore the church and monastery and with CUBE 3 to create three new residential buildings surrounding the landmarks.

At the heart of the 11.6-acre site, Maker Hall—housed in the former church—is the main amenities center for the community. The existing structure had been abandoned for over a decade, requiring a meticulous construction process with significant attention to detail to restore the original features, including the 55-foot ornate ceilings with unique plaster moldings to the towering stained-glass windows.

In addition to the historical attributes, the 22,000-square-foot building features myriad modern amenities for community residents, such as the 5,000-square-foot fitness center and studio. Plus, the first floor features a café, private lounges, conference rooms, pool and shuffleboard tables, and even a pub.
