In North Charleston, South Carolina, Storehouse Nine has opened in a restored naval storehouse within the mixed-use redevelopment, Navy Yard Charleston. The project offers 78 boutique live-work studio to one-bedroom units. Ranging from 540 to 930 square feet, the units create a flexible and integrated living area and workspace.
“Today’s workforce is more flexible and more mobile than ever before,” says Jay Weaver, founder and president of Weaver Capital Partners. “We wanted to create a living experience that reflects that trend and serves a broad range of lifestyles and working arrangements. The live-work units at Storehouse Nine can be adapted for artists and business owners, and more broadly for people prioritizing a home office environment.”
Originally built in 1918, the four-story building features industrial architecture with exposed brick walls, concrete floors, historically replicated steel-frame windows, and original mushroom columns. Each 1940s-inspired unit includes cream cabinetry, bronze hardware, glazed porcelain tile, and open shelving. Loft ceilings, carpentry closets, American-made light fixtures, and standing desks complete the units.
The conversion project, led by Jamestown and local real estate developers Weaver Capital Partners and WECCO Development, is the center of the first phase of Navy Yard Charleston’s mixed-use redevelopment of the former Charleston Naval Base. Storehouse Nine also includes maker studios, retail, and design showrooms on the ground floor. Later this year, a rooftop restaurant will be added to the building.
A plaza separates Storehouse Nine from Storehouse Eight, which will be reactivated soon with offices, an event venue, retail, and restaurants. Within the plaza, residents can enjoy a lawn and tree grove, a game area, a fire pit, and an outdoor event space. A glass-box restaurant placed within the plaza will offer al fresco dining, and seasonal programming will include events, food trucks, and other activities.
Storehouse Nine’s residents also have complimentary membership to nearby Paradiso, the city’s leading social club with fitness facilities and a saltwater pool with cabanas.
