2008 MFE Awards
Merit: Low-Rise

Submitted by: Plantation Building Corp. Proving that you even the smallest of projects can exceed expectations, Wilmington, N.C.-based Plantation Building Corp. has executed on a 1920s era design for a 21st century condo low-rise.

The pint-sized project includes nine units, ranging from 407 square feet to 691 square feet, on a 0.08-acre parcel of land. Plantation applied advanced building materials and construction techniques, including insulated concrete form construction, to satisfy fire codes and add exceptional sound-proofing and energy-efficiency to the building.

Individual units feature 8-foot-tall, five-panel doors, wide plank oak floorboards, oversized crown molding, and state-of-the-art appliances and fixtures. Oh, and the base molding detail was inspired by the set design of the hit HBO series Sex and the City.
