A newly constructed, 16-story apartment complex in Reston, Va., has a colorful feature: a hue-changing façade.

The Exo's exterior, designed by R2L Architects and developed by Greystar, was constructed using color-shifting metal panels that change from dark royal blue to blue–green depending on the sun’s angle.

Inside each of the 457 units, renters enjoy smart-home features, including “view dynamic glass” windows that are controlled with an app. The windows allow varying amounts of natural light while reducing glare and energy costs.

The apartments also have keyless entry, a Nest smart thermostat, energy-efficient appliances, wood floors, quartz counters and a washer and dryer.

The one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, which rent from $2,105 to $6,120 per month, range from 700 to 1,413 square feet. The upper two floors of both towers include upgraded penthouses with floor-to-ceiling windows and private terraces.
