The SEASONS at the Hoover in Whittier, Calif., is an excellent example of what historic preservation/adaptive reuse is all about. Today a quaint, affordable apartment community for senior citizens, this property was previously the Hoover Hotel. Designed by architect David Bushnell in the Mission/Spanish revival style and built in 1930, the once-elegant hotel fell into disrepair and became rundown as Whittier’s Uptown area deteriorated. However, the city’s vision for redeveloping its Uptown evolved into action when, starting in 2000, the aging Hoover Hotel was redeveloped by LINC Housing and Vista Communities into the SEASONS at the Hoover.
