R.D. Olson Construction has broken ground on West Terrace, an affordable housing community in South Los Angeles developed in partnership with A Community of Friends, a nonprofit developer of permanent supportive housing, and FSY Architects.
The wood-framed, four-story building will be constructed to LEED Gold certification standards, with sustainable construction materials and water-efficient drainage and landscaping, among other features. Construction is expected to be complete in summer 2022.
“Los Angeles is experiencing a lack of supply across all multifamily types, but the need is particularly strong in the affordable space,” says Bill Wilhelm, president of R.D. Olson Construction. “We are proud to partner with A Community of Friends to bring 164 new low-cost units to an area that is growing extremely quickly.”
The West Terrace community will measure 52,300 square feet in total, and offer 14 studio, 29 one-bedroom, 20 two-bedroom, and one three-bedroom units. It will be located near a new Metro stop, offering easy transit access for residents, as well as SoFi Stadium, a new attraction in Inglewood.
Amenities will include a community room, on-site laundry, grills, bike storage, a playground, an interior courtyard, and a community garden.
