Lowe and USAA Real Estate have announced the start of construction at Park + Ford, an office-to-residential conversion project set to provide 435 apartment units out of two 14-story buildings in Alexandria, Virginia’s Park Center complex.

The Park + Ford community will offer studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments in a variety of floor plans, incorporating the former office building’s floor plates and high ceilings to facilitate natural light exposure and expansive views of the surrounding area. Resident amenities will include indoor and outdoor common areas for co-working, gatherings, or relaxation.

The 115,000-square-foot office building at nearby King Street will remain an office building, including the 55,000-square-foot X-Sport Fitness club, which will be included in a new mixed-use center. Lowe will continue to manage the building through its Hospitality at Work property management affiliate.

“Park Center is well-located and presents an ideal opportunity to transform the existing property into a mixed-use complex that is designed to meet the evolving demands of renters in Northern Virginia,” says Lowe executive vice president Mark Rivers. “The new Park + Ford apartments will provide attractive, modern residences with convenient access to major employment, retail, and entertainment centers in nearby Arlington and Alexandria.”

The conversion is expected to be complete in 2021.
