In our Concept Community Chat series, we have conversations with the innovators working at the cutting edge of design, technology, and trends in the multifamily space as they relate to renters by choice.

MFE editor Christine Serlin chats with Kai-Uwe Bergmann, partner at Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). BIG is a Copenhagen- and New York-based group of architects, designers, builders, and thinkers operating within the fields of architecture, urbanism, research, and development.

Bergmann discusses how architects are addressing contemporary life and innovating the resident experience for renters by choice. He highlights BIG’s recent project, The Smile in Harlem, and shares how its team was able to reinterpret the architectural design to comply with New York City zoning and enable the residential units to have more direct sunlight.
