A new study from online moving firm Movinga reveals that New York and San Francisco are the second– and third–most-expensive cities to move to in the world, and that Seattle is No. 10 on that list. The report, based on a poll of 5,000 respondents ages 25 to 35, includes 75 cities in 51 countries. Luanda, Angola, has the highest first month’s basic costs of any city across the globe, at $3,259.32. Tunis, Tunisia ($397.80), has the lowest.
New York's basic first-month living cost is $3,084.75, followed by San Francisco, at $3,050.10. Seattle's first-month living expense is $2,084.03, followed closely by Los Angeles, the 11th city on the list, at $2,012.70. Austin, Texas, ranks No. 25, with a basic first-month living cost of $1,533.39.
The study's findings are especially noteworthy given that half of the survey respondents said they planned to relocate within five years. Movinga conducted the study in part because understanding the costs associated with moving is very valuable for those who are looking, or being recruited, for jobs abroad.
