American Landmark Apartments is expanding its successful property management internship program into Tempe, Arizona, and Richmond, Virginia. American Landmark launched the yearlong, paid internship program in 2020 in Florida and Texas and has since graduated 33 interns, including eight who were offered full-time roles within the company.
With two main goals of introducing students of diverse backgrounds to potential high-earning career tracks in multifamily real estate and providing a supportive environment for students entering the workforce at a time when remote work is reducing opportunities for formal and informal training or mentorship, the program is structured within 30-hour work weeks at a specific property or set of properties.
Interns get hands-on experience with property marketing, financial management, leasing/sales and operations, resident customer service, maintenance, and more, all while being immersed within the multifamily community environment. Victoria Ayala, a former intern at Central Station in Orlando, Florida, was onboarded and hired as a full-time leasing consultant following her graduation from the University of Central Florida (UCF).
She says, "I was fortunate to have started my journey with American Landmark as an intern while attending UCF in 2021. Initially, I had little to no knowledge of property management, which presented an exciting challenge. Since day one, I've received unwavering support and invaluable guidance from my colleagues. They've taught me how to conduct property tours, process applications, build resident relationships, employ marketing techniques, and even offer insights into assistant and property management roles.”
Throughout her time as an intern, Ayala says she gained experience that instilled confidence in her as she pursued her current role as a leasing consultant. “In this role, I have continued to relish the opportunities American Landmark provides, from training others to work-related travel. I have developed a deep passion for my work and eagerly anticipate my future here. I am always looking for new ways to refine my skills and prepare for the next step,” she says.
Based in Tampa, Florida, American Landmark’s current portfolio consists of approximately 33,000 units in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. In addition to the new locations of Richmond and Tempe, the firm has internships available at properties in Austin, Texas; Atlanta; Charlotte, North Carolina; Dallas; Orlando, Florida; Tampa, Florida; and South Florida.
