With MFE’s Top 50 issue right around the corner in May, this week we break down executive compensation among public REITs, highlighting the per-unit salaries the companies’ top earners pulled in last year. All figures are taken from proxy statements of companies that have already filed for 2011.

The increases in compensation weren’t too drastically different from 2010 to 2011, but it is clear that REIT CEOs were able to ride the high-demand rental trend all the way to the bank last year.  Their total compensation includes all bonuses and exercised options in addition to base salary. Here’s a rundown of how much a few of the top REIT executives earned in 2011 for each unit in their portfolio.
