Building boomtown

The former Williston Junior High School is being transformed into 44 affordable apartments for seniors.

Michigan-based G.A. Haan Development was introduced to Williston by associates from the oil industry. It constructed the 40-unit Nokota Ridge project to house families last year.

The oil boom hasn’t been all positive for Williston residents, from rising rents pushing locals out to increased crime and traffic.

Williston, a once quiet farm town, has been taken over by North Dakota's oil boom.

A 74-unit project is being built on the Williston State College campus to serve school employees, State Highway Patrol officers, and health-care workers.
