Last Thursday night, tenants at City Park Apartments in Salt Lake City, Utah came home to find a piece of paper taped to the doors of their units. The paper instructed them to 'like' the community's Facebook page within five days, or be found in breach of the rental agreement - along with a release allowing the community to post pictures of tenants and visitors on social media.
Zachary Myers, an attorney specializing in tenant rights, told KSL-TV the contract addendum is unfair to those who don't have a Facebook account and tenants are not required to sign it if a lease is already in place.
Chris Matyszczyk of CNET also notes the building's Facebook page shows a 1.1 star rating, and comments to match. Requiring people to like your page isn't exactly the way to start winning them over, either.
