Project of the Year: Multifamily
Seabourn Cove, Boynton Beach, Fla.
Builder: FM Contract Service, Tampa
Designer: Marc Wiener, AIA, Boca Raton, Fla.
Developer: Gulfstream Gardens, Tampa
Seabourn Cove in Boynton Beach, Fla., recently won the Multifamily Project of the Year Award from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green Building Awards. The 23-acre, 456-unit project is the largest multifamily community to achieve Gold status under the National Green Building Standards Certification Program.
Seabourn Cove features car-charging stations, stormwater retention systems, drought-tolerant landscaping with low-flow irrigation, and dark sky–compliant outdoor lighting.
The development also touts a 40 percent reduction in energy bills and a 25 percent reduction in water bills compared with conventional apartment units, thanks to the use of R-38 ceiling insulation, low-E glass, a 16 SEER HVAC system, fluorescent lightbulbs, and Energy Star appliances.
The community, about an hour north of Miami, also features an Eco-Art Walk, which links to the city’s own planned nature pedestrian trail.
The project was developed by Tampa-based Housing Group and Gulfstream Gardens, built by FM Contract Service, and designed by Marc Weiner.
