That's why the Houston-based developer and owner installs pendant lights in most of its units.
“We want our communities to be different from our competition, and residents today want to see apartments with style,” says Apple Comunale, regional design director for The Morgan Group.
“Pendant lights, no matter how simple, have a big impact. We use pendant lighting for dramatic effect.” Pendant lights, also known as mini-pendants, usually either hang directly from the ceiling on long posts or drop from lighting rail systems. They can be found in a variety of places and used in a number of ways to enhance a space. You'll see them at Starbucks, which uses pendant lights above tables in seating areas, as well as in office buildings, where pendant lights draw attention to reception areas.
Pendant lights are available in a variety of shapes, styles, materials, and colors, which means they're easy to customize. And it's not just the pendant that is customizable; you can also customize the post and the lighting rail system.
Comunale says The Morgan Group first used pendant lights in its clubhouse areas, installing them in its Internet cafés at several properties in Houston. The company, which owns 14 apartment communities in four states, started simple with its pendant lighting, choosing basic finishes such as satin nickel for the pendant posts and white glass globes for the pendant covers. The developer is now combining pendant lighting with track lighting in its units, opting to hang two pendants over the bar areas and install track lighting in its kitchens, Comunale explains.
In its new Houston property, theCORE—a 326-unit development in the Houston Heights neighborhood—The Morgan Group installed pendant fixtures manufactured by Fort Worth, Texas-based Quorum International, whose pendants feature brushed nickel posts and contemporary opalescent glass globes.
The Morgan Group also features pendant lighting at its newest community in California, the 362-unit Triana in Woodland Hills. There, the company used pendants from Seagull Lighting's Ambiance Collection in its units. The pendants, which hang over the kitchen bars, feature elongated glass globes in an inviting amber color.
“The pendant lights bring a unique element to the kitchen area,” Comunale says, “and the style of the pendant can add to the overall feel of the apartment community.”
