The ball is now rolling on the search to replace Edward DeMarco, acting director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, the agency that oversees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. No candidates have been officially named, but according to the Wall Street Journal, there are a few frontrunners for the job.

In an article published on Monday, Susan Wachter, professor of real estate finance at the Wharton School, Michael Stegman, housing finance advisor to Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, and Jonathan Fiechter, deputy director for monetary and capital markets at the International Monetary Fund, are all names popping up in discussions to replace DeMarco early next year.
According to the article, a recess appointment isn’t likely being considered right now as it could risk relations with Senate Republicans, many of whom would like to see DeMarco stay at the helm as Fannie and Freddie face an overhaul. Who do you thinks best fits the job? Leave a comment below.
